There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be the next world leader. Your business relies on your ambition, confidence and desire to succeed.
However, if you listen to all the ‘expert advisers’ out there right now – those well-meaning bloggers who love gushing out buzzwords like ‘narrative’, ‘rhetoric’, ‘voice’, ‘values’, ‘storytelling’ and ‘policies’, then you’re probably destined to let the other guy win.
That’s because the key to your creativity and success in your quest for world domination actually depends on a sure-fire strategy that’s often misunderstood, and frequently overlooked.
So before doing – or wasting your valuable time and money on – anything else, make sure your ‘election campaign’ truly masters the art of “Swing State Marketing”. It’s been used, and used incredibly well, by every victorious US President since Lincoln.
Here’s how you do it…
Start with the realization and understanding that you only need to win over a small number of extra voters (a.k.a. replies, responders, customers) to win enough extra seats (a.k.a. market share) to secure your spot in the White House.
Next, know that you’re not going to get this necessary uplift from those people who, for whatever reason, will ALWAYS vote for the other guy, or who’ll NEVER ever respond.
What’s more, you really don’t need to worry about those loyal folk who are sure to respond favorably in any event. All they really need is to see your wining smile, and to regularly receive a sincere pat on the back for their generosity and support.
With all that out of the way, you can now simply focus on converting those who fall into the ‘might if pushed’ category, i.e. those ‘wavering’ voters living in your Swing States. You need to concentrate on your equivalents of Florida, Ohio, Iowa and the like.
Once you’ve decided to do that, the rest should all simply fall into place.
For example, you can easily and accurately profile these “Swing State” folk by knowing they have a high degree of interest in your subject. They’re already in the market and are looking for something like you’re offering.
These people typically want to buy, but because they’re not that enthusiastic, they need someone to push them over the edge. They need someone to tell them that emotionally they’re making the right decision.
Also, remember that these “Swing State” voters also have Promiscuity as a function of their interest. They will be looking around, comparing prices and value, teetering on the edge of replying but not quite there yet.
You task, as Future President, is to shift them from wavering to replying, and because you now have a clear idea of who these people are and what they need, the creative techniques you can use to achieve this shift become a great deal clearer:
- You know you can afford to talk to them as an interested person – we have no need to establish their interest in the first place.
- You can grab their attention through self-selection by talking to them about something that’s of immediate interest to them.
- You can then win them over with your special narrative, rhetoric, voice, storytelling and policies.
And the rest, as they say, will be history Mrs (or Mr) President… history made by you sitting in your very own Oval Office at the top of your game.
